Yard Maintenance FAQs

Love your lawn—find answers to commonly-asked questions below!
How much and what maintenance does my irrigation system require?
The most important part of irrigation systems is adjusting your timing each season. This means more in the summer and less in the winter. We can advise you on how often and when to run your sprinklers.

There are five main types of fertilizer: slow/controlled release, inorganic, organic, dry, and water-soluble fertilizers. If you’re worried about chemical use in your yard, go for an organic fertilizer. They are still effective and better for you and the environment.

Lavender, basil, thyme, mint, lemongrass, alliums, chrysanthemums, petunias, marigolds, and mosquito plants are known for their anti-bug properties.

Helenium, Yarrow, Hyssop, Aster, Coreopsis, Black Eyed Susan, Penstemon, Echinacea, Monarda, Abelia, and Hardy Fucshia are just a few of the flowers that promote pollination.

How can I prepare my yard for winter?
The most necessary parts of winterization that you can do yourself include turning off your sprinklers, aerating your lawn, and removing weeds and debris from your lawn and garden beds. These are all things that our team can do for you.

Fall is the best time of year to install a new lawn. Soil will stay warm into November at the latest, so the grass seeds won’t dehydrate as quickly. They also won’t need as much watering as if you planted in spring or summer.

Depending on climate and season, you should water your yard 2-3 times per week for about 20 minutes. This will sufficiently water everything and keep your lawn and plants strong and healthy.

Mowing is important for the health and strength of your lawn and promotes deep root growth. Mowing at the right height helps increase density and continues to promote that deep root growth. It will also reduce the number of weeds your yard grows.
